The Washington High School Choirs are composed of 4 choirs (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Choirs).
The Advanced Choirs are the most versatile of the choirs at Washington High School and commonly called "Accents" and "Guys with Ties". These Varsity Choirs begin their year singing traditional and contemporary concert style sacred and secular repertoire including powerhouse Gospel. After mid-term (October), our choirs begin preparing for the annual madrigal dinner, a long standing tradition in the Washington community. After the new year our Advanced Choirs move into our show choir season. Accents compete in numerous invitationals around the state as we attempt to qualify for the ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) Show Choir State Championships in March. Guys with Ties participates in the District ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest, attempting to qualify for state, in February/ In April we come full circle as we move into college level contemporary concert choir music. We then travel to perform in a national music festival competition at the end of April as well as the Holiday World Music Festival mid-May. We then finish our year with commencement at the end of May. Auditions for our Advanced choir are in May. Students are required to enroll a full year of choir to participate in Accents and Guys with Ties
The Intermediate Choir is our junior varsity choir commonly referred to as "Encore". This auditioned choir is a versatile choir, yet not quite as busy at the Advanced Choirs. The Intermediate choir is designed to further prepare students for the Varsity choir. They join the Advanced Choirs throughout the beginning of the year singing traditional and contemporary concert style sacred and secular repertoire including Gospel. After mid-term Encore begins preparations for the Christmas concert for December. After the new year they are learning music to participate in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District and State Solo and Ensemble in Evansville and Indianapolis, Indiana. Show choir begins for Encore Mid-March as they prepare to compete in the Holiday World Music Festival. Their year ends with the spring concert and commencement performance.
